slab becomes wall
This pavilion is a sales house for the adjacent housing project that consists of 5 hectares of curvilinear slab forms. These curvilinear slabs were the inspiration for the pavilion’s serpentine wall.
wall becomes armature
This singular curvilinear gesture captures space between the folds and provides the opportunity to explore contrasts between light and shade. Circulating through the centre of these spaces provides an alternating sequence of sun-filled and shaded experiences. Each of these internal experiences also has direct access to the outdoors via decks to the landscape beyond.
All programmatic elements, the front desk, exhibition stand, model and staircase, are placed along the wall of the building.
Also attached to the wall is the linear sales program. For the potential purchaser – to walk along the wall is to follow the narrative of the successful purchase of their apartment.
The optically illusive carpets and most of the furniture were specifically designed for the project by BAU.
geometry becomes urbanism becomes architecture
When manipulated at different scales, the simple geometric abstract gesture – a vertical plane folded to capture space within its folds –generates a useful urban solution and an elegant architectural outcome.
