The building is situated in Qingpu water town, adjacent to Shanghai. In this location, the usually closed big box supermarket unfolds on the water side to a canal. Shoppers on the escalators have a framed view of the water landscape, and those on the canal edge have views to those shopping. A covered and active street edge of retail leads pedestrians down to the canal where a passive pedestrian path and jogging track provide connection to the rest of the city’s water network.
